>A year later…

>Because I am too sick to take care of Sebastian today (Daddy’s on call, thank goodness), but also too sick to sleep (my head – when will it stop throbbing?!), you get treated to another post this week. The timing is perfect, too, because today Sebastian is

Fifteen Months Old.

This is a strange time, when age is counted in months, so what does it really mean? Well, as I explained to a student at my school last week, it means a year and three months, so I used the cool option in iPhoto to look at only pictures from the last 12 months in order to think about what life was like a year ago. Three months old. It is a little hard to remember without the pictures (so thank goodness I have 3500 of them, according to iPhoto). As my dear friend Rendy said last weekend when we saw a newborn in her daddy’s arms, “You mean they didn’t just come out walking and talking??” Exactly. I call it the New Normal, because once they move onto the next stage of being, it feels so normal that it’s hard to remember how the previous one (or five) felt.

So to remind myself and all of you what it was like a year ago, here are some pictures. A year ago we were getting ready to go to BC for the Cranberry Festival and Canadian Thanksgiving, which we will do again this weekend if we ever get healthy.

A year ago, Sebastian was just starting to really think Daddy was hilarious, and it was such fun to see his grin and hear him giggle…

Now he does full on belly laughs and wants to swing “MORE.”

A year ago, when Sebastian hated both the stroller and the car seat and couldn’t even sit up on his own, tummy time was pretty much the highlight of the day…

Now of course he is walking and talking and going on outings all the time. Here is Sebastian just loving this cardboard house we found at the Farmer’s Market last weekend:

Finally, I’ve gone from nursing my three-month-old seven or eight times a day to just having meals together at our kitchen table while he feeds himself – something that seemed then like it would never happen – and responds to things I say (or mostly just parrots them):

From my bald baby to my busy boy, it’s been quite a journey from 3 months to 15. And the more things change, the more they stay the same. A year ago I was on leave from work and was just enjoying the time I was home with Sebastian, and now here I am back at home, doing the same thing but having a lot more fun.

Usually, that is. Now if we could just get rid of our hacking coughs and sore throats, we’d be ready for festival number 4 with Auntie and X!
