In trying to close out the school year as a teacher, grad student, and mom with kids in 2 different schools, I let the ball drop on a few things, like writing here and…ahem…preparing for Father’s Day. Oops.
Fortunately, their teachers had them make gifts in school, so that bought me a little time. I used it to steal borrow copy this idea from Rage Against the Minivan to do a short survey of my son about his daddy. I think this will be fun to redo over the years, modifying the questions slightly as necessary, to add to his “Dad book.” That is a simple scrapbook I’ve been keeping since the Father’s Day before Sebastian was born, and includes the cards and whatnots we make him for that holiday as well as his birthday.
Anyway, the survey. Here it is, with my questions and answers from Sebastian (almost 4 years old). In italics are my commentary.
What’s your daddy’s name? Jonathan
Last year he probably would’ve said ‘daddy.’
What’s Daddy’s favorite color? Green
What’s Daddy’s favorite food? Cupcakes
Hmm. What’s Daddy’s favorite growing food? Rice Chex
His father actually eats Cheerios every day for breakfast, but Sebastian doesn’t like to share them, so this is wishful thinking.
What do you love to do with Daddy? When he throws me up in the air
What does Daddy do to make you happy? Help me brush my teeth
Funny how this is a recurring battle most nights. Methinks the child is confused about the question.
What do you do that makes Daddy happy? I follow him when he’s gonna show me something.
What’s your favorite thing Daddy does with you? Colors with me
I’m not entirely sure I’ve ever seen them color together, but he does love it when his daddy does puzzles with him.
What does Daddy do at work? Work on a computer
What should everyone know about Daddy? Not to break him
Um…how can someone break him? Pushing him
So there you have it: his father according to Sebastian, and a fair warning to you all not to push him. I think if Theo were to answer the questions, he’d have agreed that having Daddy throw him in the air or let him sit “super high up” on his shoulders during a “trail walk” are his favorite things to do with Daddy.
Happy Father’s Day to the best daddy two boys could have.
“I follow him…” so precious!
Jessica, I nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award. And sweet post about the hubby!
Love that interview
So cute. It would be very sad to break the daddy.
Mark did this for me at Mother’s Day. I should have done the same for him – maybe I’ll just be very, very late with this particular gift!
Haha…this is perfect! I may need to ask my kids these questions, too.
I second the “not to break” the daddy commandment. 🙂
Great post! It’s good to hear about another fine father out there!
I still love this. And the answers are the best.
