It’s Monday, which means it’s list-making time again! I missed last week due to crazy, overwhelming amounts of work. This week should be a lot somewhat a tiny bit less stressful, so here I am.
This week’s theme is 10 Reasons it’s Great to be a Kid, a.k.a. You Think You Have it Tough, Buddy? Seriously?? a.k.a. Please Stop Whining Already.
No explanations will be needed for you fellow parents out there, so this will be short and sweet.
Ten Reasons Little Kids Have it Better:
1. You have no bills to pay.
2. We call your playing “work.” As opposed to, you know, having to actually work.
3. You have your very own cook, chauffeur, maid, and personal shopper.
4. There is always someone immediately available to take care of you when you get sick.
5. When you scribble on paper randomly, we call it art and hang it on the fridge.
6. Someone does live readings of fabulous books at least twice a day. Right in your very own room!
7. No one minds if you fall asleep in the afternoon, in the car, or right after dinner. In fact, it’s encouraged.
8. You get gifts and/or candy for almost every holiday, not just your birthday and Christmas. We’re talking Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween, and whenever Mama is bored of your toys. You also get new clothes every six months as opposed to every six years.
9. The smallest things are still absolutely thrilling for you: new flowers in the spring, the first time sledding each winter, seeing the squirrel bounding across the top of the fence. (I hope you never outgrow this; my heart hurts just thinking that you might.)
10. You live with people who love you more than anyone else in the world, no matter how much of a crab you are.
Oh wait, that one goes for me, too.
Life’s pretty sweet, little Raslers.
So please stop whining about how you don’t get to have Cheerios, PB&J, and baked beans every single day for the rest of your life. Or how you have to take turns with your brother. Or how you don’t want to ever get a haircut EVER EVER again. You’ve got it made, boys. You are even luckier than I am. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Number 8 makes me laugh because it’s so true. I never get new clothes and J is about to get a whole new wardrobe for the warm weather…
I think my favorite is the one about the gifts–they really DO get gifts for EVERY holiday, and we get like a crappy, I mean sweet homemade card for like 2. Sweet list. Erin
Hear, hear! I would gladly fall asleep every afternoon and wake up to a dinner. It has been right about 6 years since I went clothes shopping for myself too 🙂
Number 7! Ditto. 🙂
One of my favorite things about dadding is the joy my kiddo takes in little things, in seasons turning, in the annual firsts and lasts. It’s cool stuff!
Oh to be a kid again! I’m gonna have our girls read this! Thanks!!
I like the part about the live readings of great books; sign me up!
heh, i love this! 🙂
I love #5 and #6! So, so true.
I love it! Cute post!
Very true! I’d like no bills to pay. Wait, but also….wine. That complicates things.
#9. But all of it, too. Great post!
I am showing my daughter this IMMEDIATELY!
Oh to be a lucky little Rasler. I like the live readings. I do work hard on stuff like that—the kiddos should appreciate it more. Great list, Erin
Love it, and gotta say, Amen! I miss being a kid!!
I wish people would encourage me to fall asleep anytime, anywhere!
Oh, friend. You and me both! I don’t understand why we don’t have siestas here like they do in Spain. I blame the Puritans.
I agree with your list, especially Nr. 10.
My son has always been a high maintenance kid, more so at home than anywhere else. When I talked to my pediatrician about it he told me that kids do that because no matter what, mom always loves them…. even though it did not make me feel better at the time I think it’s pretty special now, because he trusts that I will always love him (which I do :))
oh…the life. This made me giggle (and want to be a kid again…or hang out in the room with mine and see if anyone will notice if I start playing along!)
I love #10!! So sweet & true!
They ARE pretty lucky. 🙂
I wish I could take a nap anytime I wanted, and I would love a cook, chauffeur, personal shopper and maid who isn’t ME.
Great list!
aw, i love this. agree on every point. really, we should all celebrate president’s day with a giant basket full of candy and cookies, shouldn’t we?
I love #5! Although, to be fair, there’s some “art” hanging in museums that’s not as good as my kids’ stuff. 😉
I think number 1 is the best reason of all.
Cute list and so true! It hurts me to think about my daughter outgrowing #9, too.
Oh man, I want to be a kid in your house, haha! 🙂
The little Rasler’s have it made, 5 made me LOL
