My perfect vacation

It’s that time of year again. When it starts to rain several days in succession. When it’s dark before five o’clock. When I begin to dream of running flying away to a sunshiney wonderland.

My recipe for a perfect vacation:

1 favorite person
Could be a significant other, best friend, or sister, but no munchkins.
2 plane rides
There and back. Driving is nice, but I love to fly.
3 meals a day cooked by someone else
Oh, how the food always tastes better when someone else makes it!
4 outings
I don’t like to overplan my vacations. I want plenty of time to sleep, read, and wander. But I do like to sightsee in between.
5 minute walks
I like being able to stay near somewhere like the beach or a restaurant or both. It’s lovely not to have to get into a vehicle to go everywhere.
6 books
These days you can take as many as you want on your phone, nook, or kindle, and I’m never entirely sure what I’ll be in the mood for, so I like options. 1 old favorite, 1 funny, 1 serious, 1 short, 1 long, and at least 1 should be real, for takeoffs and landings. And just because I’m still old-school like that.
7 bubble baths
The only tub in our house is in the bathroom attached to my son’s room. I have a lot of missed baths to catch up on!
8 favorite outfits
that make me look fabulous in every photo we take, including the elusive perfect bathing suit. Even better if they’re new!
9 full nights of sleep
No monitors, no cries in the dark, no 2 a.m. wakeups.

Add it all together and bake for

10 days of sunshine
We live in the Pacific Northwest. ‘Nuff said.

————
Any longer than that and I’d start to feel guilty and/or desperately miss my little Raslers.

This perfect vacation feels like it won’t happen for a long while, but a girl can dream, right?

brilliant how you numbered it all! definitely sounds like the perfect vacation to me! Except, I’d be okay with 14 full days….I am so overdue, I doubt there’d be any guilt

It’s true, we shouldn’t feel guilty over a full two weeks. We’ve earned it!

Very clever numbering indeed! Seems like most of us feel pretty similar about our vacations.

So true. We all need the same kinds of breaks from our everyday lives!

Love, love, love how you did this list! I hope Santa brings you a vacation like this every year.
And I really like the cooked meals and walking distance to everything too.

Thanks! I’ll be asking this of Santa (and the boys’ grandparents!) for sure.

The numbering just started coming as I did the first two, so I went with it. Glad you liked it! We all need this vacation, don’t we??

Absolutely. Not cooking is always on my list of indulgences!

Me, too. I found something passable for this summer, but it is by no means perfect. Good luck on your quest!

There is nothing like having the perfect vacation outfits. I love planning out what I am going to wear. The beach outfit, the post beach outfit. The little sundress for dinner. I admit it, I am a bit of a shopper.

      November 21, 2011 | 11:09 pm

I normally find shopping for myself exhausting, but somehow buying vacation outfits is so much more fun!

I know. I try to soak it up over the summer, but it is hard not to get depressed around February (or sooner).

Love this list! I always start day dreaming right about now as I pull mittens out of the closet. LOVE the new blog look. I haven’t been good about blogging or reading blogs but this is much more ‘visable’. I struggled to really read in the other format. Is this your own url? Love it! Hope you are well! I need to catch up on you!

Whew, don’t we all?? And the official holidays are often exactly what put us over the edge. I’m thinking everyone needs a perfect vacation right around January!

Number 10 is a must for me too!

    • Jessica@Team Rasler
      November 21, 2011 | 11:12 pm

I know, the sleep thing is crucial. My boys have been sick for the past week and we are all sleep-deprived and cranky. Desperately wishing for ten straight needs of rest!

    • Jessica@Team Rasler
      November 21, 2011 | 11:14 pm

Ha, just realized that number 10 was the sunshine. Also a must for a vacation, but you can tell I’m so wishing for sleep right now!

Sounds like a recipe for a cruise to the Carribean (which is something I am going to on in just over a week!!!).

You’re right that, as much as every good mom or dad needs a vacation, it’s hard to be away from the kid(s) for more than a few days. ๐Ÿ™‚

      November 21, 2011 | 11:16 pm

    • Jessica@Team Rasler
      November 21, 2011 | 11:16 pm

It totally counts. My current favorite pants are yoga pants, so they would definitely be coming with me on my perfect vacation!

No munchkins is key and not too many outings. I want to wake up with nothing to do and do nothing if I want!

    • Jessica@Team Rasler
      November 21, 2011 | 11:18 pm

Absolutely! The possibility of doing nothing is so rare once the kids show up in our lives.
