Questions that are harder to answer than I expected*:
Why is today Thursday?
Why is January the first month?
Why isn’t 45 a date?
Why do you have to go to work on Tuesdays?
Why do we have bedtime when it gets dark?
Why do I feel sad sometimes?
Why are you here?
Why are you Theo’s mama, too?
Why do you love me?
Why does X need medicine? (followed by: I think I’m can need medicine, too.)
Why does medicine make you feel better?
Why do we have enough food?
Why don’t you know?
This tiny mortal can ask questions that turn me inside out.
And I love it.

*I’ve answered them all multiple times to the best of my ability, but I’d love to know how you would reply to any of them!
My little almost-4-year-old is getting into the “why” questions now. I still love it tremendously because with his ASD the fact that he’s even communicating with us and ASKING a question in a huge milestone, but there are questions that I just have not thought through hard enough!
Like:
Q: “Why we watch Halloweentown?” (‘Return to Halloweentown’ on Disney Channel) A: “Because mommy likes this movie.”
Q: “Why mommy like movie?” A: “Because it’s fun and makes mommy happy.” (Thought that would be satisfactory.)
Q: “Why it make mommy happy?” A: **crickets** “Becaaaaaause… I love you, just watch the movie with me.”
I love them too. I’ll take the easiest one: I am Theo’s mom too because God sent him to me, just like he did you. I was the right mommy for both of you and he made sure that happened.
I tried to use intellect, science, facts and true knowledge with all answers, but sometimes I have to answer with God – I don’t know what else sometimes!
I also OFTEN answer a question with a question. “Great question! What do YOU think?” Sometimes that gets the conversation in the direction they need it to go!
My husband thinks I ask too many why questions. 🙂
hilarious!
Love that you captured these here! Some doozies! Those little wheels are turning!
I love the questions! I think my answers would be different for most of these depending on the day. And I’m not really sure why January is the first month either. I’d have to google it. 🙂
Seriously, what did parents do before Google? I think they must have made up a TON of answers!
Lol Kids ask the hardest questions sometimes. Great post!
When my girls were small, the hundreds of questions a day would get mind numbing and by the end of the day, I would struggle to answer even the simplest of ones. Often times, with my three babbling girls, I would tell them at the end of the day, that we were going to take a break from talking. They were never able to last more than a few minutes.
My favorite one of all, was from my middle daughter: “Mama, why am I me?”
