Goodnight Mood

Goodnight Mood*

In the big beige room
There was a rocking chair
And a kangaroo
And the entrance of —

A boy with a bad attitude

And there were three unread books and two angry looks

And one crying brother
And a frustrated mother

And a noisy timeout
And a definite pout

And a shove that was rough and spilled bins full of stuff

And a cross-armed daddy who was sighing “enough!”

Goodnight brood

Goodnight mood

Goodnight boy with the bad attitude

Goodnight silly fight
Over kangaroos

Goodnight books
And angry looks

Goodnight brother
And goodnight mother

Goodnight sighs
And rolls of the eyes

Goodnight timeout
And goodnight pout

Goodnight shoves
And being too rough

And goodnight to the daddy sighing “enough!”

Goodnight frowns

Goodnight glare

Goodnight whining everywhere

*If your children, unlike mine, didn’t make you read Goodnight, Moon by Margaret Wise Brown until you wanted to weep, this will make far less sense to you.  But if you have children at all, I feel sure you will still recognize the end-of-day meltdown.

Hilarious–especially since it is not me anymore! You are right that this scene plays out in many evening households all over the world, with the same mixture of emotions contributing to it all. I’ve often thought that it is a good darn thing that the parents had little-to-no energy left by then, for these behaviors to really cause a reaction. Hee! Hee!

Oh yes – recognize this book and the meltdowns as well! The good thing is that there is an ending to the book, just like an ending to the meltdowns.
And then another bright beautiful day begins . . .

I don’t have children, but I read this book a lot as a little kid and then I remember reading it to myself as I got older! I also had to learn how to read it in Spanish in high school! I loved your “goodnight mood, Goodnight boy with a bad attitude” that is so fitting! 🙂

Thank you for making my SITS day so special!

Haha! Oh goodness, very funny. I don’t have kiddos of my own, but I definitely used to read this to the little girl I nannied. I’m sure some day I’ll fully understand all of this. 😉

This was great. I’m on my second go around with Good night moon and I’ll tell you..if I have to read that again…Isn’t it so true that even though you love them so much, the best part of the day is that moment you can finally put your feet up, stop threatening time-outs, have a little me-time?

Yes! There’s this great quote, “There is no child so beautiful that his mother would not rather see him asleep.”
